Progress Presentation and Tutorial Reflections

This week we had tutorials to share progress in small groups. In preparation, I made this presentation to show most of my progress so far. This incorporates early research and artists that have inspired my project in the first slide then it moves onto development pieces. This project has been full of experimental pieces so I wanted to show how I've turned them all into a final book.

During the tutorial, I found it informative listening to other people talk through their projects and how they plan to utilise the rest of the year. While this takes away from time in the studio, it's interesting to see other peoples styles and how they approach projects; whether its shorter projects with more final pieces, explorative with more sketchbook work or longer overlapping projects, we don't usually get to see how others work so it's beneficial to have these tutorials.

I presented my presentation last and was able to pass around both my sketchbook and 'Journey into an Industrial Landscape' book- this helped take the pressure off my presenting abilities! My presentation was mostly visuals so I talked about the processes I'd used, my research and development and what I want to achieve before the first development hand-in in January. The feedback I got was very positive and they liked the book and the way my sketchbook was very explorative with links to research. This is something I love to show as I find it interesting to see how ideas and concepts have developed rather than a single final piece- seeing the journey adds context to the piece.

Overall I found this experience beneficial and feel prepared to start on my new project over the Winter break in preparation for hand-in. While I still feel behind compared to my Action Plan, I'm pleased with what I've accomplished and how I've allowed myself more time to learn new skills like bookbinding. Hopefully next year I can continue to stick to my timeframe while experimenting and trying new things.
